How to Compare Quotes From Different Cosmetics Factories

Comparing factory quotes is not about finding the lowest number — it is about comparing what each number actually includes. Here is how to put quotes side by side fairly.

Sending the same brief to five factories should produce five comparable quotes. In practice, it produces five documents that each include different things — one counts packaging design, one excludes shipping, one assumes a different order size. Comparing them raw is like comparing menus in different currencies. Here is how to normalize the comparison so the numbers become meaningful.

Send the Same Brief to Every Factory

Comparison starts before any quote arrives. The inquiry — product list, target market, quantity range, packaging direction — must be identical for every factory. A brief that varies by factory produces quotes that vary by brief, and you will never know which difference came from where.

Normalize the Order Quantity

Unit prices move with volume, sometimes sharply. Make sure every factory quotes the same quantity for the same product — or convert their quotes to a common order size before comparing. A cheap quote built on a 50,000-piece assumption tells you little about a 3,000-piece launch, and vice versa.

Compare What Is Included, Not Just the Total

This is where quotes hide their differences. Ask each factory the same four questions about what the price covers: Is packaging design included or billed separately? Are samples included in the price or paid at this stage? Which quality standard does the price assume — and who pays for third-party testing if you require it? What happens to the price at your likely reorder volume? Two identical totals can describe very different offers.
The cheapest quote is only cheap if everything you need is inside it.

Weigh the Terms That Outlast the Order

Some of the most valuable quote differences never appear as line items: whether design revisions are free, whether the MOQ stays low as your range grows, whether one team follows your project from quote to shipment, and what standard the factory manufactures under. These terms shape every future order — give them real weight next to the unit price.

Build a Simple Comparison Sheet

One row per factory, one column per dimension: unit price at your quantity, what the price includes, design support, quality standards, MOQ flexibility, and your contact person's role. Fifteen minutes of spreadsheet work turns five confusing documents into one honest picture — and the factory that welcomes the comparison is usually the one worth choosing. At Atelierscent, quotes come with free logo and packaging design, low MOQ across makeup, skincare, and nail lines, and strict ISO 22716 and GMP manufacturing standards — put us on your sheet and see how the columns compare.
